Juneteenth

An IN PERSON Conscious Dance and Rest workshop designed for People of African Descent

Saturday, June 17th, 2023 11am-5pm PST

See our COVID protocols for this workshop here.

Please note that due to the unpredictable nature of the pandemic, our schedule and guidelines are subject to change.

WITH: Arisika Razak, Valerie Chafograck and Sarah Crowell

WHERE: First Unitarian Church of Oakland, 685 14th St, Oakland, CA 94612

WHAT: As People of African descent, we rarely get a chance to breathe, move, play, rest, or dream together.
In this daylong workshop, we will do just that. This is an invitation for us all into a state of rejuvenation and nourishment. We will explore what it means to heal within our historical, cultural and political context, and reconnect with our legacy, reimagine our future, and celebrate our personal and collective agency

We will co-create a safe space where participants are invited to:
EXPLORE alone and together through free form movement, rest, facilitated inquiries, eclectic music, stillness, and silence.
PRACTICE cultivating presence and spontaneous expression in a judgment-free environment where “it’s not about how it looks, it’s about how it feels.”
LEARN somatic tools that expand our capacity to embody the wisdom of our ancestors and reframe our future.
EXPERIENCE feeling joy and being alive and at home in our bodies.
GROW new seeds of resilience and weave a fabric of new possibilities.

ALL PEOPLE OF AFRICAN DESCENT ARE WELCOME – Beginners and dance devotees. All ages and all genders are encouraged to attend.

For participants who are economically secure, we respectfully ask you to donate at the level you are able to join us, and support our teachers who have dedicated their lives to cultivating the skills and presence required for this work.
